The Sony KV-1210U, introduced in 1969, was one of the early consumer televisions to feature Sony’s Trinitron color CRT technology. It used a 12" color picture tube and represented Sony’s push to bring compact, high-quality color TVs into the home.
Unlike conventional color TVs of the time that used three small electron lenses, Trinitron used a single large electron lens system, helping the color beams stay more focused. Sony promoted this design as producing a brighter, sharper image than competing color televisions.
The KV-1200U also used solid-state electronics, allowing it to run cooler and improving reliability compared to earlier designs. With fewer internal adjustments required for color alignment, it was marketed as a simpler and more dependable color TV.
Sony offered the model in multiple cabinet finishes, including sleek black and walnut. At launch, the black KV-1200U sold for about $299.95, while the walnut version KV-1210U was priced at about $319.95, positioning it as a premium compact color television for its time.
